…and you should too!
The Benefits of Oatmeal
Everyone loves oatmeal! It’s warm, it’s creamy, it’s packed with super nutrients that give you super powers (check the box, super powers are clearly listed), oatmeal is the perfect addition to your day. We’re well aware of the internal benefits. But what does it do for your skin? A lot! Read on to learn why you should make oatmeal a staple in your grooming routine.
From rosacea to eczema, acne to a bad sunburn – red, irritated skin is painful. Oatmeal contains natural antioxidants that can help reverse the damage caused by inflammation. When applied topically, oatmeal soothes the skin and aids in the healing process. When used regularly (like in soap), oatmeal can improve skin tone, calming angry red splotches associated with a variety of skin conditions. This makes oatmeal an ideal soap ingredient for even the most sensitive of skin!
One of the greatest benefits of oatmeal in skincare is the ultra moisturizing properties these powerful little oats contain. Oatmeal contains polysaccharides, a form of complex carbohydrate that morphs into a gel-like substance when mixed with water. This new substance is capable of penetrating deep into the skin, pulling water with it and providing moisture to even the driest of skin. This means that itchy, dry, rough and cracked skin has met its match.
Cleanser & Exfoliator
Oatmeal contains its own natural cleansers and lathering agents, and the “oat milk” created when oats meet water makes a mild exfoliant that removes dead skin and debris. Oatmeal’s pore purging properties make it an excellent, gentle addition to soaps designed for sensitive or acne-prone skin. Seriously, what doesn’t this little oat do?
Remember that oat milk mentioned above? Well, not only does it cleanse and deliver moisture deep into the skin, it leaves behind a fine layer of skin protecting vitamins and nutrients! Cool, yeah? This protectant helps balance your skin’s pH levels, guard against free radicals, and lock in moisture all day long.
